My Brutally Honest RMS Beauty Review

In today’s article, I’m sharing my honest review of the rms concealer, lip2cheek cream, Uncoverup foundation and eyeshadow.

RMS Beauty is one of the OG natural makeup brands started in 2009 by Rose-Marie Swift, a master makeup artist for 30 years. The RMS Living Luminizer was one of the first natural makeup products I ever tried. And I didn’t love it. But there are some rms makeup products I do enjoy, and I’ll be sharing them today.

RMS Beauty values runway ready makeup performance and clean ingredients in their expansive line of foundations, blushes, eye makeup and even skincare. While the line is for the most part all natural, RMS does include some synthetics in certain products. Overall, RMS has a stronger focus on natural ingredients than some other newer clean makeup brands like Jones Road Beauty and Tower 28. Toss aside your Charlotte Tilbury and read on for my RMS Beauty review.

Unfortunately I’m personally not a fan of RMS Beauty most iconic product, Living Luminizer. I find it to look shiny on my skin, giving me a greasy / wet look. I know the vast majority of people seem to love it, but it’s just not for me.

Rms UnCoverup concealer

RMS UnCoverup Concealer

My favorite RMS product is their UnCoverup Concealer. This is a great cream concealer if you’re looking for one with a natural finish. While RMS describes UnCoverup to provide a light finish I actually found it to lean medium coverage. If comparing to another popular cream concealer by Lily Lolo, RMS’ is not as creamy as Lily Lolo’s.

UnCoverup Concealer is made with organic coconut oil, beeswax and castor seed oil. As you get close to hitting the pan it does start looking pretty unappealing to use. Check out some of my favorite clean concealers here.

RMS Lip2Cheek Cream

The RMS Lip2Cheek Cream is one of the best products in RMS’ lineup. It’s a multi-purpose color cream for both eyes and cheeks, but I find it more suited as a blush. Lip2Cheek is great at adding color to the lips but isn’t very moisturizing.

Demure is a beautiful Rose mauve pink shade with fantastic pigmentation that’s buildable. I’m wearing Demure on both my lips and cheek in the above shot (direct sunlight).

The finish is natural and not dewy. In comparison to ILIA Multi-Stick, RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek has somewhat stronger pigment power.

Another standout from the RMS Beauty line is their cream eyeshadow. It’s neither tacky nor sparkly and feels like a sophisticated product, which isn’t often the case for cream eyeshadows for me. Or I should say, liquid eyeshadow as Eyelights is not a traditional cream pot eyeshadow but a liquid-cream in a tube.

Finish: Metallic (RMS describes it as light reflective but I find it to lean metallic)

Pigmentation: Can be used for a sheer, subtle wash of color and buildable to a very bold metallic eye

Flare is a universally flattering light brown-gold shade. While RMS Eyelights can be used for a subtle hint of color on the eyes, I find that using it for a bold metallic eye brings me more joy. It’s possible to overdo it, because the cream can clump if you use too much product.

flare: Water/Aqua/Eau, Mica, Propanediol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Silica, Glycerin, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Aminomethyl Propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tin Oxide, Chenopodium Quinoa Seed Extract, *Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

I’m wearing only three products in this makeup look: RMS concealer, eyeshadow and Lip2Cheek in direct sunlight.

Rms beauty foundation

RMS Uncoverup Foundation

Unfortunately I was not a fan of the RMS foundation and wouldn’t recommend it. This is an oil-based cream foundation that’s technically more of a liquid-cream than a true cream foundation. I ordered shade 00, which is the 2nd lightest shade, and it was too orange in real life. I have no idea what happened here, because it looks nothing like the shade shown on their website.

You can tell in the photo that there are little beads dispersed throughout the formula. The RMS Uncoverup Foundation was too rich for my skin and gave it an oily finish. Compared to my top favorite organic foundations, rms’ falls short.

Also, what in the lack of representation is this? How is this all they’re going to show for “real people wearing rms”? When I see something like this, I have to wonder how diverse their hiring practices are for their digital marketing team to think this is ok.

I used to love RMS…back when it first started as a small company. The products were high quality and, indeed, lasted the “up to 2 years” in their FAQ’s at that time. The more they’ve grown, however, the worse their customer service, and the products are just not as quality. The last eyeshadow pot I bought lasted less than 6 months — even in the fridge–before going rancid. The luminizer just was more greasy than illuminating, not at all like the first pots I owned. They sent me the wrong product at one point and said I would have to pay to send it back. I’d also been in a hurry that day and opened it, finding it was not what I had ordered at all so they said that was my error. Ok, so I’ll agree to that, but even so…an apology for sending the wrong product in the first place was in order. I’ve gone off them completely. Now they are owned by a larger company and have so many products, I’ve really turned off. Which is too bad. Because their original product line was small, but very high quality and the customer service was suburb. Rose Marie herself answered questions!! I really miss the old RMS. Good honest review. Thanks!

Hey Janice! Thanks for sharing your experience, so disappointing to hear – I miss the good old days too 🙁 I can’t believe they made the living luminizer greasier LOL! I didn’t like it when I used it almost 10 years ago and never bought it again😂

Yikes. That full sunlight photo does not make these products appealing at all.

LOL! I guess that makes it aligned with the “brutally honest” pov😂
